In Through the Outdoor

Ok, so it's an old Led Zepplin reference. It was just to get your attention. This post is a quick personal reflection on this past 5-1/2 months of training for my upcoming Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon.

This will be my sixth marathon, but the first time I have completed every single day of training, except one, 2-mile training run. And, it's because I decided this year that I wasn't going to let the Indiana snow, ice or drifts on the sidewalks keep me from training - even one day less! Yes, I joined a health club and married a treadmill!

Our relationship has been rocky, but I think that we've gotten to know each other very well these last few months. And, I must say that although there were times I dreaded a Saturday morning two to three hour run on the treadmill, it kept my training consistent and my outdoor runs healthy.

As the weather gets nicer, our time together decreases each week. But I hold fond memories of her inclines, speed settings and 60 minute limitations. I dream of the Fall and Winter six to nine months ahead when we shall meet again, no matter the brevity of our engagement.

Cheers to all of you who share my views on her majesty - the treadmill.
