My 1st Tri

This is the race report I sent to Phil Carr after my first triathlon on Sunday at Tri Indy.

I thought going into today I could finish in 2:40.  How I got there was not how I thought it would go.  It was helpful to be able to wear the wetsuit.  First time I ever put one on was this morning.  Anyway the swim was 35:00 and I planned on 40.  The 1st transition was slow because I had trouble getting the wetsuit over the chip.  Rookie mistake.  The bike was a little slow but I could tell it was not an A day and wanted to make sure I did not leave my run on the bike.  I thought I could average 21 mph, but with the wind and rough roads I was OK with 20.  During the ride I started thinking 10K sounded like a long way.  The second transition was OK.  The run was bad.  I felt nauseous.  Later I could tell it was just dehydration.  Taking Katie and Rebecca to Nickelback last night was not a good idea, but committed to that a long time ago.  Not good for hydration.  Nor is not training in heat of any kind beyond 1 hour.  I still thought I could run at least 6:40's.  It sure felt hard though and it was clear it was going to be close to 7:00's.  Due to my mistake and no help from volunteers I missed a turn and added at least 3 to 4 minutes to my run.  Not a good thing to do when it is already going very bad.  Anyway, it is nice to have my first tri behind me. After a little recovery I would like to do another Olympic soon because I think I am at least 10 minutes better on a B+ day, but cannot find one anywhere close.  I do think I set myself up for the most improved award next year.
